Black Owl at The Jazz Estate
Black Owl was a Cheyenne Indian Chief. Black Owl was a 40’s crime fighter comic. Black Owl is a trio from Milwaukee with Jesse Lee Montijo on alto sax, Ben Hans on drums and Steve Peplin on guitar. Steeped in the American musical tradition, Black Owl is all about compositional improvisation. Audience members can construct titles and ideas for the band to realize, (on a clipboard which is passed around to those interested) which adds a whole new level of interaction with an audience. As for the inevitable verbal description of Black Owl’s music, it’s textures are vastly disparate, from spacious ambience to doomy sludge, from bebop to delta blues, Black Owl sounds like listening.
Black Owl will be appearing at the Jazz Estate this Thursday, Jan. 19, 9:30 - 1:30
