—DownBeat

Eric Alexander with We Six Trio

Written by Jamie Breiwick on .

Thursday May 5th, 2011 - 7:30 pm

Dubbed “Alexander the Great,” tenor saxophonist Eric Alexander boasts a warm, finely burnished tone and a robust melodic and harmonic imagination. Starting his jazz education at Indiana University and continuing at William Paterson College in New Jersey, he advanced his studies under the tutelage of Harold Mabern, Joe Lovano, Rufus Reid and others. During the 1990s, after placing second behind Joshua Redman in the 1991 Thelonious Monk International Saxophone Competition, Alexander threw himself into the whirlwind life of a professional jazz musician.

Currently based in New York, Eric has recorded over 20 albums as leader and has played all over the United States, Europe and Japan with all the jazz greats: Ron Carter, Jim Rotondi, Steve Davis, Joe Farnsworth, Peter Washington, Cedar Walton and WCM alumnus David Hazeltine.

Tickets for the 2010-2011 season are $22 per concert for general admission and $20 for seniors and students. A Quartet ticket package is also available for $70 general admission and $65 seniors and students. You choose four concerts from the Prometheus Trio, Philomusica or We Six concert series.
